Inquiry is more than asking questions. Inquiry is about developing a level engagement where a learner asks, “I want to help solve that problem. How do I do that?” Once learners are looking for a solution to a real world problem, they are now seeking an answer. That ‘seeking’ is inquiry! You’ll know you are engaged in authentic inquiry based learning when more questions are coming from your learners than from you. Inquiry is at the heart of Project Based Learning, so read deeply on inquiry as much as you do Project Based Learning. Check out Trevor McKenzie’s work on inquiry – Inquiry Mindset is a fantastic book to get you started. Soon you’ll be hooked on creating moments of inquiry in your classroom. At Magnify Learning, we facilitate inquiry through the Know/Need to Know process.
