Creating a PBL culture for third graders last year entailed training students to lean into interdependence — whether in the research phase, project development, or just exploring tools. The teachers became another human resource for students offering timely workshops when needed, rather than the purveyors of all knowledge to students who passively sat while their buckets were being filled. Establishing PBL protocols early awakened students to the notion of agency in their own learning journey, even third graders. – Devin P. (Calvert County Public Schools)
